Dairy Working Group Banner

News and Upcoming Subgroup Meetings

  • The next Subgroup #1 meeting to occur on October 16, 2017. A public notice will be sent out shortly with the same details to be updated below.
  • Docket is now open and comments can be submitted or viewed below.

Subgroup Mission Statement

Assemble a comprehensive overview and discussion of available non-digester methane emission reduction alternatives, covering each of the following:

  • Emissions and potential emission reduction opportunities for GHGs, criteria, toxic, and noxious pollutants
  • Actions needed to further develop markets for soil amendments and other products associated with the alternative manure management strategies
  • Availability of incentive funding for conversion to alternative manure management strategies
  • Long-term financial viability of conversion
  • Optimization strategies
  • Barriers and recommendations for overcoming them
Non-digester projects include dry manure managements strategies and pasture conversion.

Deliverables

  • Establish the current state of knowledge on emissions and potential reduction opportunities for GHGs, criteria, toxic, and noxious pollutants
  • Recommendations on the development of markets for soil amendment and other products associated with non-digester alternatives. These will include estimates of the quantities of these products likely to be generated and the feasible geographical distribution of these products (e.g. feasilibility of transport to distant markets)
  • A comprehensive listing and desciption of available incentive funding, an assessment of the gap between the funding currently available and the funding needs of dairy and livestock operations
  • An analysis of the financial viability of non-digester manure management conversions by dairy type and region. This will include revenues from sales of secondary products (e.g. soil amendments) and environmental credits. The discussion of environmental credit revenue streams will consider the impacts of potential regulations on those streams.
