METHOD SUMMARY

This category is used to inventory the total organic gas (TOG) emissions in 1987 from auto refinishing operations in California. Emissions are due to solvents contained in auto refinishing products such as refinish paints, enamels and lacquers, refinish primers and undercoatings.

ACTIVITY DATA SOURCE: The number of gallons of products used in auto refinishing was based on national production data for 1982 as reported by the Bureau of Census. Activity was grown from 1982 to 1983, and then to 1987 based on growth in vehicle registration.

EMISSION FACTOR SOURCE: 1977 ARB survey of six major producers of auto refinishing products. A composite emission factor of 5.275 lb/gal was used.

TEMPORAL DATA:

 

Daily Activity:

Auto refinishing is assumed to occur during normal working hours between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., with no activity during the remainder of the day.
 

Weekly Activity:

The activity is uniform five days a week, with no activity on Saturday or Sunday.
 

Monthly Activity:

The activity is uniform throughout the year.
