The TJX Companies Case Settles for $7,000

On October 12, 2010, a case was settled with The TJX Companies for selling non-compliant fragrance diffusers into California subject to the volatile organic compound (VOC) limit for liquid/pump air fresheners, title17, California Code of Regulations, section 94509 (a). The fragrance diffusers contained concentrations of VOCs exceeding the 18 percent by weight VOC limit. The fragrance diffusers did not have the date of manufacture or a code indicating such a date displayed on the containers or packaging as required.  The company paid $7,000 to settle the case.
