California Air Resources Board has denied San Joaquin Valley
residents the opportunity to voice their concerns on air quality by
not hosting its regular annual update to the public and the board
on the progress being made to clean the Valley's Air.
◆ Written updates are not the same as creating public spaces
for concerns to be heard.
California Air Resources Board has yet to review the top 27
stationary sources of PM2.5 that the Board committed to when the
plan was adopted in 2019.
➔ Outstanding issues with Valley Air District's Emissions
Reduction Credit banking system remain unresolved, and CARB
committed to providing oversight and ensuring adequate remedies for
the damage caused.
➔ Ending the Valley's air pollution problem has been based
on giving money to the largest polluters: Big Ag, developers, and
Big Oil. We cannot keep giving money to bad actors, we need
behavior changes and strong enforcement.
➔ California Air Resources Board and San Joaquin Valley Air
Pollution Control District keep pointing to paper assumptions and
modeling to say everything is okay. Those models and assumptions do
not show the lived reality by community members.
◆ Several Valley Counties have some of the highest asthma
death rates among residents of all ages in the State.
◆ In the American Lung Association State of the Air report,
Valley counties continue to rank among the most polluted places to
live.
➔ The San Joaquin Valley continues to be the most polluted
place to live, with many Valley communities being in the top 10
most polluted places in the nation with dangerous particle
pollution.
