| Comment | As a Santa Monica, California native living on the East Coast I
know first-hand that California leads the country in the fight to
reduce greenhouse emissions. As the head of CARB you have a
tremendous opportunity to influence the state of our country and
world.
The best and most practical way to reduce emissions in the
short-term is by promoting high MPG plug-in hybrid vehicles like
the Ford Escape concept car. Importantly, they utilize the energy
infrastructure that is already in place and largely unused at night
when consumers' cars would recharge.
I wrote to Peugeot expressing interest in their 308i clean
diesel-electric hybrid concept car and was saddened to hear they
don't believe there's a market in the U.S. for such a vehicle. I
disagree and hope with your leadership and example the mindsets of
both consumers and manufacturers alike will change.
Ms. Nichols, I respectfully request that you choose wisely this
week to:
1. Require the full 25,000 ZEVs that automakers had promised for
2012-2014, and
2. Create a separate requirement for plug-in hybrids that lets
them replace the dirtiest vehicles in CARB's regulations, rather
than the cleanest ZEVs.
Thank you.
