| Comment | Dear CARB,
I write to ask that the California Air Resources Board NOT weaken
the current Zero Emission Vehicle regulations. Zero-emission
vehicles not only reduce air pollution, but help in the fight
against global climate change. Now, more than ever, is the time to
strengthen - not weaken - these requirements.
As one planning a vehicle purchase within the next two years, I am
quite concerned about pollution, as well as the price and
availability of fuel. I would very much like to have the option of
purchasing a zero-emission vehicle, thereby reducing my own impact
in these areas. This is extremely unlikely to come to pass,
however, if automakers are only required to make a mere 150 ZEV
vehicles per year - this in the most motor vehicle intensive
state.
Finally, I fully support the staff's proposal to significantly
INCREASE the number of plug-in hybrids that must be produced, and
appreciate staff's vision in including these cars within the ZEV
requirements. Plug-in hybrids are an excellent option for the vast
majority of consumers, such as myself. The next step, of course,
will be all-electric plug-ins, such as the Tesla Roadster, which
though far too expensive for the motoring public at present, will
become affordable as mass-production takes hold.
Thank you for your consideration.
Very truly yours,
AJ Averett
