| Comment | Construction equipment is the second largest source of diesel
pollution in the state, accounting for 20% of particulate matter
(soot) and 16% of smog-forming Nitrogen Oxides (NOx). These
pollutants are two of the biggest pollution hazards for public
health in California and throughout the country.
We have been acting to restrict air pollution from automobiles
since the 1960s. It is time to broqden the scope of our efforts
and to seriously limit air pollution from "In Use Off Road Diesel
Equipment". If the ARB enacts the proposed limitations on these
types of equipment, it will reduce premature deaths, generate
substantial savings in health care costs, and help to bring some
of California's worst areas closer to meeting federal air quality
standards.
