| Comment | Good morning chair nichols members of the board
My name is Jesus Alonso, community organizer with Clean Water
Action and proud life long Lamont resident. We are a small latino
farmworking community surrounded by agricultural fields and down
wind a refinery that consistently is found in violation and catches
fire just about every year. I grew up seeing my friends and family
struggling to breath and after a rainy day the mountains that are
only 15 minutes away reappear.
I would like to express the frustration not only felt in my
community but common in all communities adjacent to pollution
sources. These communities, our communities continue to pay,
environmentally, financially and with our health for the financial
gain of industries. Industries that can not only well pay for the
required equipment to reduce harmful emissions, but also benefit
from loopholes, exemptions, and programs that allow them to
continue to pollute our communities and our families as long as
they pay the right price.
This is why we strongly support the calls for electrification,
calls to end ag burning, calls to increase the enforcement of
regulation and calls to reduce dependency on incentives for
industry in the PM 2.5 plan. We need to invest more in impacted
communities and incentivize green jobs in those locations. We ask
that CARB use their oversight authority to help implement these
efforts and require further action from the San Joauqin Valley Air
Pollution Control District.
Thank you.
