| Comment | A large contributor to the poor air quality within the SCAQMD are existing wood burning fireplaces. PM non-attainment areas in States like Oregon and Utah are requiring EPA Phase II Qualified wood burning fireplaces and retro-fit devices to meet there obligations under the Clean Air Act. Even though new wood burning fireplaces have been banned within the SCAQMD PM non-attainment area, EPA Phase II Qualified wood burning fireplace retro-fit devices should at least be included as a contingency measure in the SIP. These technologies are considered by Oregon and Utah to be "Beast Available Control Measures" BACM for wood smoke from fireplaces. |
