| Comment | Growing up, I thought there would be no way people/auto industry
would just stay the way they were. I thought the self-absorbed
ideas would be of a bygone era. I figured the "kids" of the 60s
and 70s would wisen up in their post-childbearing years and show
the way to the "greener" future. Here I am, well into my
childbearing years, and the options I thought would be commonplace
like hybrid fuels and cars, alternative energy, and the desire to
balance travel with ecologically sound options are just starting to
gain momentum. I dream of riding a horse on a "road" in the
Central Valley of California the way it was done for a hundred
years before the car became the way. I dream of taking my city's
bus to the shopping center and not paying nearly what I would pay a
taxi cab for the same route. I dream of using a train of any kind
to get to new destinations. I dream of not thinking of the pounds
of emissions that my children are breathin in. A car doesn't last
more than a decade. I hope you consider that our lives shouldn't
revolve around something so short term and harmful. I don't want
to ban cars, but I do want to see better decisions. Let's get some
lawmaking out of the way to allow the work to get done. Let's get
a few pocketbooks out of the equation.
