| Comment | I am a native born California as were my parents. My grandparents
moved to California in the early 1900's. They were contributing
citizens who helped build the marvellous state of California.
Though I no longer live in California, I have relatives still in
the state and visit frequently; therefore, I follow California
politics and activities.
I am very proud of California's government leadership and visionary
position taken with regards to clean air and improved car fuel
efficiency/reduction of GHG emissions.
For the last 20 years I have lived in Calgary, and now on Vancouver
Is. were resource extraction occurs in our backyard...it is
enormously distressing.
California needs to strengthen its light truck, car GHG emissions
and clean air policies. Why? Because countries like Canada have
very weak governments who swoon to big oil, gas and coal interests.
The only way to save our environment and the native americans who
are dying (due to tar sands extraction) is to cut back on the
demand side for our resources. That is the role California plays.
California with strong legislative rules for GHG mitigation, by its
action, will show the way for other gas consuming governments how
they too can legislate positive polices to bring about a transition
to alternative energy.
Please help us up here in Canada to save our environment.
Don't forget, the tar sands extraction in Northern Alberta is the
largest open pit mind on the plant, with little government
oversight and devastating consequences to our environment and slow
death to the small populations of Native Americans living
downstream from the tar sands extraction.
Thank you
