Comment | First of all, I would like to thank you for taking climate warming seriously and developing a plan to reduce global warming pollution while at the same time creating jobs and making California a healthier and more prosperous place to live! Both myself and my future children will benefit from your forward thinking, thank you for caring about future generations, and creating good jobs in our present circumstance! Setting a limit on Carbon pollution that declines each year and setting a minimum price on carbon pollution are both strong measures of this proposal by promoting long-term versus short-term investment in strategies to reduce global warming emissions. However, the program could be better: the largest polluters should be held responsible for their current emissions; they should pay for their permits in an auction style setting rather than be given a free ride. The state can then re-invest auction funds into efforts to transition to a cleaner economy, away from carbon based energy. These funds could be used for clean energy residential and commercial retrofitting programs such as making homes and businesses more energy efficient, increasing public transit options, and developing wind and solar projects in California. Thank you for reading my letter and taking my suggestions into serious consideration. Not only our health but the health of our children and their children hangs in the balance of our climate decisions today. What will we leave to our children in California? A barren and polluted desert or a vibrant, balanced environment, not only to survive in, but thrive in as well! We can do this! The planet is looking to California as a beacon of innovation, lets rise to their expectations! Sincerely, Saoirse G. Folsom Oakland, Ca. 94606 |
