I strongly urge you to oppose/amend the proposed regulations.The
CARB proposed regulations on Californias sportfishing and whale
watching fleet would have drastic consequences that I believe are
not foreseen by those writing these regulations. Myself and
thousands of other individuals rely on recreational sportfishing
and whale watching in order to make a living and provide for our
families. On top of that it provides a wholesome family oriented
option of recreation that dates back many generations. The offshore
sportfishing fleet has drastically molded southern California
culture. IF passed the outcome of the regulations would not only
force many anglers and whale watchers out of the sport but it would
costs thousands of jobs and force many small and family owned
business's out of business. The proposed retrofits and re-power
regulations are simply not feasible for a large majority of the
fleet. The number of vessels that fall in this category is so small
and they are on the water so little any potential benefit is far
lower than the cost that will be levied on recreational fisherman
and business owners.
