strong ZEV program!
I ask CARB to:
Require the full 25,000 ZEVs that automakers had promised for
2012-2014;
Create a separate requirement for plug-in hybrids that lets them
replace the dirtiest vehicles in CARB's regulations, rather than
the cleanest ZEVs;
Incentivize plug-in hybrids that have the most on-board
electricity storage.
I personally had the opportunity to occasionally drive an
all-electric GMC EV-1 during a period of 1 1/2 years and found the
car to have great handling & acceleration. It was a joy to drive &
I felt great about driving a pollution-free vehicle. I was quite
disappointed when I learned the vehicle would have to be
surrendered at the end of the three-year lease so that it could be
collected and destroyed by GMC. I realize the development of an
all-electric vehicle is not an easy one but found it hard to
believe the elimination of these EV-1 vehicles from availibility
to California consumers during a time of rising gas prices,
especially now that I see the price of a gallon of gas approaching
$4 per gallon and realizing $5 per gallon may not be that far away
in the future. I believe the development of alternative "fuels"
to power vehicles is critical, especially when the use of these
"fuels" contributes less to the pollution of our environment.
Again I urge Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to ask CARB to stand up
for a strong ZEV program! Thank you.
