Subject | GHG Emission Reduction Targets, SB 375 |
Comment | Dear Chair Nichols and Air Resource Board Members: Thank you for all your hard work in the implementation of SB 375. I believe that by the appropriate enforcement of this law, we will see a reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and more sustainable communities and transportation choices. As a person who values walkable and bikeable communities, accessible alternative transportation, and clean air, I urge you to adopt only GHG emission reduction targets that are ambitious and achievable. It would be a joy for me if I could spend less time on the freeways, save money on gas, and have more time with my family. These things can be achieved through compact community planning and affordable housing close to work, school, and community centers, as well as more accessible alternative transportation choices. It is a travesty that our communities are not more bicycle friendly, given the bicycle-friendly climate in California. Bergen, Norway, and Kiel, Germany, among other European cities that I have visited, have much better systems of bike paths than San Diego, where I live, in spite of the fact that their climates are much more bicycle-unfriendly. In your upcoming meeting, please vote for ambitious GHG emission reduction targets and achievable sustainable community plans,. Thank you for all your hard work and for the opportunity to submit my comments. Sincerely, Peter Worcester |
