Subject | Support ambitious SB 375 pollution reduction targets |
Comment | Dear Chairperson Nichols and Air Resource Board Members, I urge the California Air Resources Board to pursue strong, vigorous implementation of the Sustainable Communities and Climate Protection Act (SB 375). This law will help improve local economies, reduce our infrastructure costs and create jobs while also reducing air and global warming pollution. The board can demonstrate strong leadership and ensure the law reaches its full potential in two ways: 1. Establish ambitious regional global warming pollution reduction targets. 2. Exercise your full powers to identify and support financial resources that cities and towns can use for planning and other activities that meet the goals of SB 375. I urge the board to adopt ambitious targets for California to meet the goals of the legislation, including reducing traffic and chronic illness; making our communities healthier and more competitive; and confirming California leadership on issues of growth, sustainability, public health and overall livability. As a person who values walkable and bikable communities, accessible alternative transportation, and clean air, I urge you to adopt only GHG emission reduction targets that are ambitious and achievable. It would be a joy for me if I can spend less time on the freeways, save money on gas, and have more time with my friends and family. These things can easily be achieved through compact community planning and affordable housing close to work, school, and community centers. I believe that by the appropriate enforcement of this law, we will see a reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and more sustainable communities and transportation choices. In your upcoming meeting, please vote for ambitious GHG emission reduction targets and achievable sustainable community plans. Please also exercise your full power to secure funding for implementation of this landmark law. Thank you for all your hard work in the implementation of SB 375 and for the opportunity to submit my comments. Sincerely, Christopher Lish PO Box 113 Olema, CA 94950 lishchris@yahoo.com |
