Subject | Please include Biofuel Oasis in top 10 grant list |
Comment | To whom it may concern, It is my understanding that you are making grants to various applicants for installing "biofuel" stations throughout the state. Well, please do your homework to learn that not all biofuels are created equal. Specifically, learn *how much better* bioDIESEL is than ethanol on so many levels (it is my personal opinion that ALL reinforcement and movement on ethanol should be delayed until its source, energy requirements and carbon footprint can be "brought into line" and be definitively shown to be beneficial, but that's a bit off-topic). What I DO want to encourage is that at least as much reinforcement is give to biodiesel, and to let you know that the Biofuel Oasis in Berkeley is probably one of the best stations in the state, if not the country. Just a few notes about them: 1. BioFuel Oasis has a successful record of supplying biodiesel for over 3 years and is the only place to buy biodiesel at a public pump in the Bay Area. 2. The new location will make biodiesel much more accessible, not only to the Bay Area, but to travelers on the busy I-80 corridor. 3. BioFuel Oasis is a small, locally-owned and women-owned business with the money staying in the state and local community. They strive to get biodiesel made as locally as possible from recycled vegetable oil. 4. For the past year, all the biodiesel they have sold has been made in California from recycled vegetable oil. 5. The use of biodiesel translates into lower carbon dioxide/greenhouse gas emissions and lower particulates, which means cleaner air and less global warming. All research data shows that the benefits of biodiesel FAR SURPASS -- using almost any metric --- those from ethanol. Right now, "the Oasis" could very much use grant money to move their station to a much more central, accessible, and user-friendly location. Please give my points and their business and grant application "due diligence" before committing too much in one direction. We need "biodiversity" in our fuel choices as much as we do in our ecosystems!! Thank you, Michael Bender Proud and happy member of the Biofuel Oasis "fleet" |
