Subject | $25mil grant allocation for BioFuel Oasis |
Comment | Only $24.7 million has been awarded out of $25 million allocated. Please consider giving BioFuel Oasis the $100K they need to put in a major biodiesel station on the I-80 corridor in Berkeley. This station would be the first of its kind in the country - selling only biodiesel made from recycled vegetable oil, powered by solar panels, and digging up pavement to grow California native plants that decrease carbon dioxide in the atmosphere even more. Not only does BioFuel Oasis serve retail customers, but also many fleet from UC-Berkeley recycling trucks to private fleets like Clif Bar. BioFuel Oasis has been a pioneer in bringing biodiesel to the Bay Area at a retail pump, opening in December 2003. They will continue to expand and grow in their new location and beyond in the years to come building on their experience with biodiesel handling and equipment. This grant money is greatly needed to make that happen. Biodiesel is an important fuel to fund, as it is the one alternative fuel that needs no modifications to a vehicle. Old and new diesel vehicles can use it. There are many diesel vehicles, especially trucks, on the road today and with biodiesel and new emission-control technologies coming out, it is a viable way to clean up our diesel emissions.
