As a lifelong Californian and
parent of young children who cares deeplyl about the future health
and well-being of my community, I urge the Board to adopt stronger
standards for new vehicle sales.
The time for half-measures has lost past.
The technology transition is well-underway. Now is the time to send
a strong mandate to manufacturers that is commensurate with the
crisis at hand. Vehicles sold in 2030 will still be on the road in
2040 and beyond. In 2022 there are more electric options than ever
before, and the efficiency and cost of batteries are dropped
precipitiously in the past decade.
In 2020 over 70% of all new vehicles sold
in Norway were electric. Your and California's leadership on this issue is no longer
at the forefront. In 2021 only 12% of new vehicles old in the
Golden State were electric. Will Ferrell said he wouldn't stand for
it. Why are you setting the bar so low when other countries have
already surpassed a goal you've proposed for eight years from
now?
I urge you to seize this opportunity to
set the bar for the world by
adopting:
1. a target of 100% of new vehicles being
zero-emission in 2030; and
2. equity standards that ensure that automakers
increase access to ZEVs for pollution-burdened
communities.
Now is not the time for half-measures. Please adopt a 100%
clean car standard by 2030.
Thank you for your consideration and commitment to the
health of all Californians,
