Subject | Need for a Strong Rule on Advanced Clean Trucks |
Comment | Dear Chair Nichols, CARB Members and Staff, I and others in the Peninsula Interfaith Climate Action organization (representatives from 15 congregations in the SF Peninsula area) are in favor of the proposed Advanced Clean Truck rule that would require at least 30% of the new trucks on our state's roads to be electric vehicles. With the demonstrated overabundance of clean solar and wind energy now available in California, it's time we quickly phase out gasoline burning vehicle and take advantage of California's magnificent supply of renewable energy! By requiring 30% of new trucks within the next ten years to be electric, we will not only make a big dent in our current GHG emissions, but we will improve air quality by reducing the particulates and smog-producing gases that affect the health of millions of Californians. At the same time, we will create many new jobs in the automotive industry -- and make California the leader in this emerging industry. Finally, by creating demand for the production of such a large number of new trucks, this will encourage development of the battery industry. That will have further ripple effects for electricity storage in other situations, too, such as homes and commercial/industrial facilities. Please act to establish the Advanced Clean Truck rule and move California forward into the new energy economy and the many benefits that will create. Thank you for your service to all of us in this state -- and the leadership you will provide for the rest of our country. |
