Good afternoon,

My name is Luis Alejandro Montes, executive director and founder of
Inside Sustainability Socal, a community-based organization with
over 50 members in San Diego, Imperial, Riverside, and San
Bernardino Counties, dedicated to growing and implementing racially
just, ground-level solutions to regional food insecurity, air
pollution, climate change, and affordable housing.

We strongly support the Proposed Amendments to the Advanced Clean
Trucking Rule, which sends a strong market signal to suppliers and
manufacturers across the State-- judging by prior testimony, across
the nation-- that we MUST produce vehicles that prioritize the
health of communities like Port Communities from Long Beach to the
Inland empire, like Barrio Logan and the border communities that
suffer from the Diesel and NOx pollution that causes respiratory
illness and cancers to have an incidence rate much higher than
communities not on the front lines of the logistics industry.

I grew up in San Diego County, but I lived in the Inland Empire as
well, where a lot of my friends and family still lives to this day,
feeling some of the harshest impacts of Diesel and NOx pollution in
the nation. It is disingenuous, disrespectful, and frankly
disgusting to hear Trucking Industry PR officials try to tack
"renewable" onto Diesel, and Natural Gas.

These are our children, our nieces and nephews, friends and
families who are chewed up by the cogs of the supply chain. As we
transition to a 100 renewable energy future, we must center those
voices in the just transition away from fossil fuels.
