Comment | I have been reading a lot about this issue and it comes down to the fact that CARB didn't understand the fishing industry and how it operates prior to writing the proposed law. How can CARB require these boats to either repower their boats with engine technology that does not exist for many of these vessels or just build new boats? The only options these small business owners have is to have new boats built, which the vast majority cant afford or close their businesses putting thousands of people out of work. That's right..... thousands because you just can't look at the people working on the boats, what about the maintenance people, tackle stores, tackle and gear suppliers and many more. CARB needs to rewrite this proposed law in conjunction with the boat owners and operators so it includes attainable equipment and goals that everyone obtain. We all want to help the environment but putting thousands of people on unemployment isn't the answer. Thanks for your consideration, John Russo |
