Esteemed Elected California Law Makers,
I am from, have grown up on, and in retirement still love and fish
the Southern California Coast. Since 1950, I have seen significant
improvement of the salt water ecology with improved water
cleanliness, increased fish and bird life, and much better near and
offshore sports fishing. The ocean is alive again and it has
benefitted from conservation efforts, many created by our law
makers from 70 years ago. Congratulations to them for a balanced
approach to conservation, one that didn't destroy recreational
opportunity or the livelihood of those in ocean business related to
boating and fishing. Those laws worked and they didn't jeopardize
the citizens access to water sports and the commercial industry on
which we rely to do our fishing, whale watching, and diving.
Unfortunately, the latest ideas to further protect and regulate
access to our coastal resources will not allow we ocean enthusiasts
to have access because the stringent boat modifications and
mandated new boat styles (metal with electric / hybrid power)don't
allow those captains and companies with which we hire and depend on
to take us on the water the time and resources they will need to
make the changes you are requiring so they can legally keep
operating. I am asking you to protect these companies, their
captains, and their crew. Please modify your plan so they can
continue to to serve us, the voting, tax paying public who
desperately need the ocean as a year round, affordable,
recreational outlet.
