Subject | CARB requirements on Older Wooden boats |
Comment | I enjoy sport fishing in the Ocean off the CA coast and feel that holding the older boats to the higher standards of the CARB's regulations in regards to air quality and emissions, deisel engines, etc. would put at least 80% of the small commercial sport fishing boats out of business. The sport fishing industry and their families would suffer. The general public that also enjoy whale watching and the like would suffer. The costs of tickets for such excursions would be cost prohibitive to charge the general public and the industry would have to shut down their businesses. They can't afford the expensive retrofitting of the older boats and can't afford the costs of the new metal boats that meet the current CARB emissions standards. Something has to give, and it should be such strict standards. |
