Hello. I was dismayed to read about yet another "well intended"
government regulation that was not "well thought out" in how it
would affect so many. The majority of boat owners who would be
required to either scuttle their boats and buy new boats to meet
regulations or retrofit their boats at an untenable cost would
destroy the California fishing industry. Either way, it would
translate into the death of their businesses.

Even if the owners would do what is mandated by this regulation,
the cost would be passed on to those who could least afford it. The
majority of those fishing from these boats aren't remotely close to
being wealthy. Wealthy people fish on their own boats or charter
private boats. On the contrary, the majority of the fishing fleet
customers are from middle and working class families who fish for
not only sport but to supplement their family's food supplies. A
good day of fishing can help feed a low-income family for a couple
of weeks. This regulation would remove the cost benefit of fishing.
Perhaps this is the real reason for this regulation; to kill the
sportfishing industry in order to appease the environmental lobby.
Could it be all about the money? CARB is supposed to serve ALL
Californians, and not serve the money.

Help the Californian families, from boat owners to fishermen/women,
to enjoy the sport of fishing as this will put affordable food on
their tables.

Thank you for your time and consideration, Craig
