Comment | Please reconsider and withdraw this proposal. The proposed changes by CARB WILL put many family businesses out of business. These are families with generations of time in our community adding to the tax base and well being of the community. I myself had my 1st "real" job on a sportfishing boat when I was about 14. This experience was invaluable to my life. I learned how to work hard and do well at the job I'm doing. The work ethic was irreplaceable. The basic work skills learned have carried throughout my life (both work & personal). From a more broad perspective, instituting these regulations, specifically targeted at the sportfishing industry, misses the mark. The low number of boats that this proposal targets is a pittance as compared to the quantity of freighters, military ships and other large "exempt", unregulated vessels. If you want an illustration of this, simply zoom out from the West Coast on the AIS Vessel Tracking website to see literally thousands of ships that will not be subject to this regulation. In summary, this proposal will harm generations of hard working families and will take away one of the most affordable pastimes (fishing) that exists. It will kill their business as it will also kill the businesses 'downstream' from them such as fishing tackle stores, marine equipment manufacturers, boat yards, etc...the list goes on. Killing these businesses will place a substantial hurt on the economy that will ripple into the well being of the state of California. PLEASE reject this proposal. Thank you for your time. |
