Subject | proposed regulations for CPFV |
Comment | I am an owner of a small sportfishing charter service with one vessel in Moss Landing, CA. I just repowered 3 years ago to Tier 3 engines on my vessel which cost me $100,000 out of pocket. The regulations as drafted require technology that has not been developed or proven safe at sea, and consequently are economically and structurally impossible to comply with requiring boats constructed of wood/fiberglass to be removed from service as soon as 2031. I wonder if you have checked with the Coast Guard about the safety issues on a passenger carrying vessel. Timing could not be worse. With the COVID-19 pandemic came economic consequences and I'm still trying to recover from my repower 3 years ago. I am 67 years old and ready to retire with my vessel being my retirement. I have worked hard my whole life building and maintaining my small business and now it's worth nothing? Just wondering how each and every one of you would feel if that happened to you........... Why is it not the same for all vessels? Why pick on passenger vessels. I know many in the commercial fishing fleet that have engines that are 40 years old!!!!! Please do not pass these new regs and let us all work together to implement sound innovative ways that are doable without putting thousands of people out of work and in the poor house. |
