Subject | AMENDMENTS TO COMMERCIAL HARBOR CRAFT REGULATION |
Comment | I grew up fishing southern California sportfishing vessels from Ventura to San Diego with my family. Those fishing trips were foundational for my brothers and I with my father and mother. The beauty and education of the ocean is second to none. Growing up in South Los Angeles I was blessed to adopt the ocean and sportfishing as my peace, tranquility, and getaway. Over the years I have watched the industry change and the quality of the motors the boats have become cleaner and quieter. I believe it is a gross misnomer to fault the sportfishing industry for gross polluters. The proposed regulations will for certain put the fleet and industry out of business affecting first a large industry contributing to our economy in California possibly placing life long fisherman by trade and career in line at the nearest food giveaway and homeless shelter. My grandchildren will not have the opportunity to enjoy the ritual of sportfishing that has been passed down in our family some 7 generations now. The proposed changes are without proper research and knowledge of these vessels. Please hear the voices of anglers and future anglers, whale watchers, ecological researchers, and divers as we plead with you to to not place a murderous and destructive plan upon the sportfishing and water craft industry. We as anglers are definitely protectors of our beautiful earth and its eco-systems but this is an egregious uninformed regulation that cannot be accepted or allowed to destroy a pastime and hobby that brings everyone regardless of socio-economic, racial, gender differentiation together forming friendships and relationships that have, do, and will last for decades and beyond. Please save our sportfishing. |
