| Comment | Ships are one of the worst polluters, set to surpass trucks in just over a year. Their emissions threaten our ability to limit greenhouse gas emissions, which have clearly already led to much more rapid and extreme change than most people imagined was possible. Equally importantly, both ship and truck emissions have plagued harbor-adjacent communities for decades, leading to higher cancer rates and many other ills - a major environmental injustice issue. CARB now has the opportunity to require that all harbor boats go electric rather than just allowing them to upgrade to new diesel engines. The technology is available to transition to electric boats now. The environmental justice choice is clear, and California is already losing so much to climate change that we must take every opportunity to stem emissions. Please act now to require 100% electric harbor vessels. |
