Subject | Notice of Public Hearing to Consider Proposed Amendments to the Commercial Harbor Craft Re |
Comment | Response to the proposed new CARB boat regulations These new proposals are not reasonable and will do little to have the desired effect on environment. They are not proven safe for watercraft and some do not even exist. They will unfairly put many owners out of business and kill recreation for the general population not just fishermen. Whale watching has become big and also has educational value, much more than going to the zoo. There are less than 100 sportfishing boats on the coast of California serving not just sportfishing but many other interests. There new regulations will put most out of business and raising prices is not going to offset the cost; it will only make it harder for the general public to participate. The public is already losing economic security due to other measures and even the boats are becoming more expensive to operate as it is. The pollution caused by this small fleet is nothing compared to the cars on the freeways. Here is a place where some real progress could be made. Incentives for ride sharing, better public transportation, more cooperation between businesses to get employees to ride share. I would have loved to use public transportation but it would have taken me 4 hours a day to do a 17-mile trip to work and back. That is half a work day and makes for 2 1/2 day extra work week without pay! 2 hours to go 17 miles ids terrible so I drove by myself like most others on the freeways. Think if even 1/3 of the cars were off the roads during the week. That would be effective as even cars burn cleaner when not in congestion and the benefits would not even end there. Please think of something more constructive for the entire population not just punish a few that serve many. This is not helping anyone of anything. Thomas Jordan |
