Subject | Need a Much Stronger Commercial Harbor Craft Regulation |
Comment | Hello Chair Randolph and Members of the Board, I live in Long Beach near the the ports and we bear the brunt of toxic emissions from ships on a daily basis. Diesel harbor craft are one of the top three cancer risks in my community as a result of their particulate matter emissions. Fortunately, just like for cars and trucks, the technology now exists to transition ships off of fossil fuel propulsion and phase in 100% zero-emission ships for nearly all vessels in the harbor. As written, however, CARB's draft harbor craft rule misses the opportunity to fully embrace this technology transition. While California claims to be a leader on climate action, we continue to concentrate impacts in low-income communities and communities of color. We need to strengthen the rule to eliminate fossil fuel pollution and advance zero-emissions technologies. Please protect the health of my family, community and myself. |
