I write to you in sheer desperation that you please stop the new
CARB engine standards for sport fishing boats. This was not thought
through thoroughly enough. This will put many small family
businesses out of work as they cannot afford to retrofit or
purchase new boats. This should be a voluntary act with plenty of
incentives. Currently there just isn't a history of using these new
engines on boats that have been retrofitted and they have issues
with failure. This could mean people stranded at sea or at least
decreasing safety on the water. This was not thought through and is
obviously not ready for prime time. And only 1 year to comply?!?
This is almost as bad as Newsom and CARB's plans to stop the sale
of small gas powered engines in California. The electric
alternatives are not safe for use in the rain or for emergency
work. Totally bad ideas!! Let the public vote on this and you'll
see it's not feasible and just puts a strain on small business
while encouraging large corporate businesses who have better access
to funding take over the small remaining mom and pops. Don't kill
California fishing with this atrocious bill. It just is a bad idea.
