We need to save our sportfishing fleet and whale watching boats
there is only 174 boats currently operating if these boats were to
shut down they would be thousands of jobs lost and also the monies
that coming to San Diego San Diego is one of the top five world
destinations for fishing for people that don't fish they do not
know that but if you ask anybody they will tell you that San Diego
is the top five world fishing destination and with that said comes
money to San Diego with hotels parking restaurants, shopping, car
rentals etc... what CARB does not understand that these boat
owners can't just get rid of their boats and buy new ones as
suggested by some Carb board members, they have no clue how much
money it takes to run these businesses and they barely make money
as it is... with only 172 sport boats the carb emissions is so low
that it doesn't even factor into Air quality and climate change as
cars, trucks, factories, etc.... To pick on small business owners
is just wrong, I truly feel that the state and the government needs
to work with these sport boats to help them over time to make The
changes on their existing boats to meet the requirements that Carb
is suggesting, carb also needs to work with a company that can help
build the proper equipment needed for these boats, they cannot
purchase what is existing today from Europe it's just nonsense to
think that they can retrofit these boats with what Europe has to
offer we need to retrofit these boats these existing boats here in
the US and help the sport boats out as well as keeping the sports
Fishing alive in California especially southern California which
benefits from the tourist money from the many of hundreds and
thousands of fishermen that come through San Diego each year to
fish our waters. Golf is not the number one sport in Southern
California it's fishing if you really do your research you'll
figure out how much $$$ is made in tourist dollars in San Diego...
not considering the impact on the lives of the boat owners and all
those that they employ the landings the restaurants and even the
hotels around the fish landings will be affected it's not just the
boat some selves these are livelihoods in life that will be
affected so you need to work with these boats and companies that
can help come up with the proper retrofits for each one of these
boats so that San Diego can still be one of the top fishing
destinations in the world and it is one of the top fishing
destinations in the world! The enclosed photo shows a chartered
fishing trip which 15 of the people on this trip flew in and paid
for hotels, food, restaurants fishing equipment rentals car
rentals, and they also stayed extra days and went sightseeing and
spent money all around San Diego so cutting off the sports fishing
fleets means your gonna
be cutting off A major part of the tourist income at San Diego
needs as well as other fishing ports up and down California... we
will stand up for our rights to fish and do fish on our sports
fishing fleets as well as do our best to work with carb with
climate change but technology needs to catch up to help these sport
boats out! So do your research if you do not fish you must find out
more about the industry the people behind it and the lives that
will be affected by this as well as the tourist dollars that will
be affected by this change that you were trying to mandate the
sports fishing fleets wants to make those changes but they need
help financially and with technology to make those changes for
their existing sportboats... One member suggestion which I don't
think she even fishes at all that the boats should just up and sell
their boats and buy new ones how ludicrous is that?? how about she
up and sells her house for much less then what she owes and then
buy another with the remaining debt that she still owes on the one
she sold! And also what will happen with these changes if Carb gets
their way, Sport fishing will only be affordable for the rich,
which is also not right so many people go fishing for their therapy
it helps so many people in so many ways that you have no clue of
why people even fish in the first place it helps people with PTSD,
people that are stressed out go fishing to decompress and
grandfathers grandmothers mothers and fathers take their children
out fishing to pass on the passion and conservation and this will
all go away you really need to think about the big picture and what
you guys are asking it doesn't make sense and it is not feasible
you need to rethink your plan to make this work for all the sport
fishing boats and whale watching boats oh I forgot to mention whale
watching yeah there's a lot of income that comes in from whale
watching and there's a lot of money that comes in on party boats
and take tourists out to celebrate weddings funerals at sea etc.
