Subject | CHC2021 Save Our Boats |
Comment | We need to allow sportfishing charter boats to continue to operate with their current engines. It is not possible to upgrade the boat engines as desired in the next year. Once the technology is available to reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency, then we can mandate new boats be built like this, and in a reasonable amount of time that upgrades are made. While it is important to make steps to improving our environment and reducing emissions, sportfishing charters are not a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Transportation (29%), Electricity (25%), and industry (23%) make up over 75% of all greenhouse gas emissions. Sportfishing charters are a fun activity for friends and families to enjoy time out in nature, on the water. Fishing license fees also help support fishing conservation. Sportfishing boat operators have also gone through shutdown due to Covid recently which has impacted their families' livelihood. This legislation could effectively end the sportfishing industry and get rid of the opportunities for friends and families to enjoy time on the water, and ruin sportfishing charter operators livelihoods. |
