Subject | Newsom Administration proposed passenger boat regulations |
Comment | This proposed regulation would be detrimental to the industry. As a sportboat owner, we are struggling coming back from the Covid shut down. There is no way we could possibly afford to replace our boat with a new metal boat. I cant imagine that it would be feasible for very many. This would put so many people out of work. For some, these boats and businesses have been passed down from many generations. Families have traditions of taking their families out on these boats just as their parents and grandparents have for many years. Others have started new traditions taking families out fishing for the first time on a sportboat with the crew teaching them how to fish. Creating memories that bring them back supporting the industry. It would be a good idea for the Newsom Administration to spend some time at the docks and on some of the wood and fiberglass boats. Take some time to see how the operations work and where they think these changes would fit into the business owners budgets and how the high costs would affect the costs for the customers whom we rely on for income. If the intentions of the Newsom administration is put an end to passenger boats for sportfishing, whale watching, harbor cruises, etc then they are definitely on the right track. How could this change be good if it potentially would put so many people out of work and into debt? Making such drastic, unattainable changes should be considered after physically investigating first hand and meeting with the people that these changes would affect. Take into consideration the thousands of people these changes would negatively affect. Please take the time to do more research before making these changes. Please take into consideration the loss of businesses, services and ability to provide for families who rely on the fiberglass/wooden boats that keep us in business. |
