Subject | New CARB laws on sport fishing & whale watching boats |
Comment | It's easy for a government to mandate the change that they want to see. However, a dedicated and truly capable government will care about ALL of the effects of their decisions and manage and plan in order to have minimal negative effects in the process. This new CARB law is an example of a government taking the easy way out by turning a blind eye on the negative effects of their decision in favor of a "one eye closed" method of only seeing the benefit. Actions have consequences and you cannot ignore that you are deepening the divide of the classes of people within the state when you continue to put laws like this in effect that stamp out the ability of the less privileged to enjoy some of the most unique opportunities of California's nature. By making these blind changes and remaining ignorant of the costs and effects, you are significantly increasing the cost of operation, and the ticket cost of these offshore sport fishing boats and whale watching tours. Don't be blind to your own actions, and don't be so offended by spirited emails such as this that you close off to hearing the voice of the opposing opinion. Be part of the solution! I don't know what the answer is, but I'm sure with some thought and hard work that a plan could be put in place to reduce the boat emissions and make them environmentally friendly without having to take measures so drastic that they take this sport away from an entire generation of people. There are trade offs that can be made, reasonable minds can find solutions when working together for a common goal. Reach out to the owners and operators of these charters and work with them to find a solution that works for both parties rather than acting like a dictator that ignores the pleading of the poor. |
