Comment | Please don't place more restrictions on boating in California! I grew up in a "working poor" family in L.A. Ocean fishing trips were the highlight of my life and are my fondest childhood memories! "Sport fishing" is somewhat of a misnomer because, although it was enjoyable, we augmented our food budget by fishing. My mom, also an angler, canned bonito as sort of a poor man's tuna and we had it for school lunches. Baked bass, cod and barracuda often showed up on our dinner plates! Later, as a father, I accompanied my children on three whale watching trips and a visit to the Aquarium of the Pacific. Their schools preceded and followed the field trips with classroom instruction and projects. One of these trips was where our oldest daughter's interest in oceanography was born. We still occasionally enjoy the videos from those field trips! The boat crews were good, hard working people. Our family became friends with Captain Jim and his wife Wanda his wife, who ran the galley on the Estrella. They were fine people, skilled and dedicated to their customers fishing success. If these regulations raise the cost of doing business, the boat operators will either go out of business or pass the cost on to the citizens. Disadvantaged kids growing up today will be deprived of an ocean fishing adventure or the wonder of a whale watch field trip. Please consider the impact this proposed regulation will have on California citizens. Respectfully, Dan Householder |
