As a father of two boys who enjoy the lifestyle of Sportfishing I
write to you to ask that you not pass this law. I have taken both
my boys out on overnight sportfishing boats from Santa Barbara to
San Diego. They started going when they were just 10 years old and
now they provide food for their families with the fish they catch.
They learned boating rules and manners when fishing alongside other
anglers and most importantly they learned respect. We have met many
of the boat owners through the years and we consider them our
friends. These owners are barely hanging on because of the pandemic
years and are finally just getting by. If these owners are forced
to install new motors into their boats or these new exhaust systems
that run so hot that they would melt or burn a wood or fibreglass
boat it will be the end for them. Sportfishing is a way of life for
so many Californians and this new proposal will kill them. I ask
that you please advise the governor that he please reconsider this
action. These boat owners have already complied with installing new
cleaner burning diesel motors just not to long ago. Why now do they
want newer motors and exhaust systems that really make no sense in
installing into a boat. It makes no sense what so ever. I thank you
