Subject | CHC2021 Save Our Boats |
Comment | Hello, as an avid angler for over 25 years I feel that these new proposed regulations are unreasonable as far as the time that is being given to comply with the necessary changes. In this economic climate we are in, Ca and Californians can't afford to take a huge financial fall in an industry that provides so many jobs, revenue and tourism. There are so many people that come here to fish and whale watch from all over the country as well as foreigners. These would probably affect dive boats as well. Prices have already risen steadily because of gas prices as well as limiting passengers due to covid regulations and safety. I simply as well as other people I know could not afford to pay double fares in the near future. The sportfishing and whale watching industry leaves such a small environmental footprint compared to gross offenders like commercial fishers, tankers as well as trains, plants and factories, cars and trucks etc. More regulations should be directed at the head of the snake not its tail. Fishing has been an almost life long passion for myself, family and friends. As a former marine bio major student at csulb, our waters and shores have been my sanctuary, my zen, my connection with nature. I try to take as many family and friends fishing whenever possible. They love the fish I bring home and ensure that nothing goes to waste. I regret to think that this passion I love so much would be taken away from me and my future children. Fyi I currently contribute thousands of dollars per year to the fishing industry as well as its connecting sectors. To think I meet so many anglers that fish our boats double sometimes ten fold what I contribute monetarily to our fleet. Again i urge you to consider the kind of economic impact this will have on workers, anglers, tourism and our beloved state. I beg the question of how many sectors this would affect. Aviation, car rentals, hotels, restaurants, parking lots, fish processing and canning, tackle shops, online sales, bait barges, mechanics, as well as maybe the department of fish and game. A practical solution would be to allow more time for boat owners to make the changes over a reasonable period that would not cripple the fleet as well as severely inhibit anglers from enjoying our ocean due to excessive fares. Please and thank you for your time. |
