Comment | Dear California Air Resources Board, The proposed passenger boat regulations that require new engines and technology is not feasible from a safety, financial or operational standpoint, and should not be adopted. By your own admission, the proposed regulations will likely remove passenger boats made of wood and fiberglass from service which would apply to over 80% of all boats! Boat owners can't afford to spend millions of dollars for new metal boats and fishermen, like myself, are already paying higher and higher fares even without the added costs associated with the proposed passenger boat regulations. If adopted, the proposed passenger boat regulations will force many boat owners out of business and will significantly reduce or eliminate opportunities for individuals to enjoy the ocean. Not only is adoption short-sighted, harmful, and punitive, it will further increase wealth inequality as only the wealthy will be able to sportfish or enjoy seeing marine life. I urge you to not adopt the proposed passenger boat regulations as drafted. Thank you, David Karlin |
