Comment | Sportfishing has been a favorite activity for decades now. We have many fond memories out on the ocean taking in all of nature's wonders. The prospect that future generations may not be able to have these whale watching and sportfishing experiences is sad. The proposed legislation for wood and fiberglass boats does not seem reasonable and it is cost prohibitive for these small, independently owned boat proprietors. None of them have $1,000.000 to comply with these new regulations. The loss of an entire "occupation or line of work" , sportfishing profession, is unfortunate. It will be a real loss for future generations not to have an opportunity to experience sportfishing on the the ocean The loss of revenue for the coastal communities where these whale watching and sportfishing boats currently conduct their businesses will be affected. These seaside attractions will no longer include harbor cruises, sportfishing, whale watching and other boating activities that enhance their tourist coffers. It will no longer be feasible to enjoy a day out on the ocean with family and friends, whether whale watching or catching fish for dinner. |
