Subject | CARB engine emission regulations |
Comment | To Whom it may concern, I am particular concerned about the California Air Resources Board's (CARB) plan to impose cost prohibitive engine emission regulations that threaten to remove vessels from service as soon as January 2023. The CARB acknowledges that this is a real possibility, and this could affect 80% of our business as a whale watching & Sportfishing company. If this occurs, thousands of Californians of diverse backgrounds, races and economic circumstances will be denied access to the sea and the educational programs currently afforded them through our low cost & scholarship field trip opportunities. We also partner with Crystal Cove Conservancy along Newport Coast to operate Marine Protected Area Cruises to underserved communities within Southern CA full funding to join us on the water. Without our vessels to use as an educational platform, (they would not meet the new CARB engine emission regulations), these cruises would halt until further notice, making the ocean inaccessible to these underserved communities. I share your desire to protect the environment and so do the Whale Watching boat owners who continue to repower their vessels with cleaner engines. We implore you to find a solution that reduces engine emissions without putting boat owners out of business, denying Californians the splendor of the sea. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Jessica Roame |
