Comment | California needs an electric-powered transportation system from one end of the state to the other, in Los Angeles, second-largest city in the country, and in small towns, no matter how remote from urban centers. California has electric-powered transportation systems in boutique locations like Santa Barbara and they work very well there. You don't have to be an environmental scientist to confirm this. Just take a deep breath as a bus pulls up or pulls away. Note how clean the air smells and feels. California can do this. It is not a "utopian" dream or something that will take money we don't have to expedite. We just need to sever our relations with the fossil-fuel industry, which keeps our governor and our elected representatives and our boards of supervisors and regulators locked into an archaic energy solution for public transportation (i.e., fossil fuels). The members of the Air Resources Board . need to protect the air Californians breathe, one of our most important commons, and one that must be protected from rapacious fossil-fuel corporations if it is to be passed down as an irreplaceable legacy. |
