Subject | I support the proposed regulation of in-use off-road diesel vehicles |
Comment | I am strongly in favor of strengthening California air quality standards with the the proposed regulation. We've done great things already to limit car-produced pollution; let's not allow construction vehicles to undermine those valuable reductions. Construction vehicles are emit large quantities of the most dangerous air pollutants in the state: 20% of the particulate matter and 16% of smog-forming NOx compounds. With childhood asthma cases at near-epidemic rates, we need to act to reduce these pollutants for our children's, and our own, health. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and am horrified by the bad air quality in the area whenever our usually helpful winds change and don't immediately take our pollutants out of the area. I am also a regular bicyclist and have experienced firsthand the foul, choking black fumes emitted by diesel construction vehicles. With the high rates of new building and road work in this area, construction vehicles are clearly a major source of dangerous smog and their emissions should be strongly regulated. Thank you, Eliza Jewett |
