I support stronger air standards for California's construction
equipment. Construction equipment is the second largest source of
diesel pollution in the state, accounting for 20% of particulate
matter (soot) and 16% of smog-forming Nitrogen Oxides (NOx).
These
pollutants are two of the biggest pollution hazards for public
health in our state with hidden costs to health care and
longevity. They particularly affect our most vulnerable residents:
our small children, immune system compromised and elderly. We can
do better to take care of each other, this regulation will help to
make it so.
