Subject | Stronger standards for Construction Equipment |
Comment | Don't wait until it is too late -- and make no mistake, Mother Earth's "biological clock" is ticking. Not in anticipation of Life, but of Death ... unless something is done, and SOON. I strongly encourage you to vote to strengthen state air standards and reduce air pollution from construction equipment, which is the second largest source of diesel pollution in the state. Diesel pollution accounts for 20% of particulate matter (soot) and 16% of smog-forming Nitrogen Oxides (NOx). These pollutants are two of the biggest pollution hazards for public health in California and throughout the country. Whenever they are asked to behave like responsible corporate citizens, Big Business insists that such measures will add "prohibitive costs" to their profit margin. Surely the question is how the State can recoup OUR costs: the quality of air, of life, the increased demands for health care services, the lost work hours due to employee sickness and their time spent in caring for their children who are poisoned by the contaminants in the air. |
