Subject | diesel emissions rule |
Comment | As a resident of the San Joaquin Valley, I write in support of a new rule to reduce air pollution from California's construction equipment. Construction equipment is the second largest source of diesel pollution in the state, accounting for 20% of particulate matter (soot) and 16% of smog-forming Nitrogen Oxides (NOx). These pollutants are two of the biggest pollution hazards for public health. Exposure to smog can have serious effects on respiratory health as particulate air pollution or soot can be inhaled and reach deep into the lungs. My mother has been stricken with asthma since moving to Fresno. I also have two children, and young people are especially vulnerable to the effects of air pollution. The new rule can prevent thousands of premature deaths, save billions in healthcare costs and help the most polluted parts of the state--including my home--into attainment with federal air quality standards. California can also again become a leader in the fight against pollution. What's not to like about this rule? Thank you for your attention. |
