Comment 373 for 2022 Climate Change Scoping Plan (scopingplan2022) - Non-Reg.

First NameEmily
Last NameWheeler
Subjectscoping plan not nearly strong enough

The scoping plan must be strengthened so that it actually addresses climate change in a serious, timely manner. It needs to:

* reduce GHG emissions sooner
* ban new gas plants
* strengthen rules against emissions from heavy-duty trucks
* not rely on unproven and sometimes harmful Carbon Capture, Use, and Sequestration technologies.

A realistic plan would not designate ethanol, known to be 24% more carbon-intensive than gasoline, as a renewable fuel. Further, it would not posit Blue hydrogen as a pathway to decarbonization.

CCS and Direct Air Capture are NOT viable strategies to reduce emissions. And we don't need them! A recent peer-reviewed study shows that the US can meet its energy needs by 2050 using only wind, water and solar. The study's models do not use fossil fuels, CCS/CCUS, DAC, or Blue hydrogen.
