I call on CARB to act aggressively in winding-down of
fossil fuels in California to address the growing climate crisis --
specifically, to adopt a
full, coordinated phase out of fossil fuels, with targets for oil
refining by 2045, oil and gas extraction by 2035, and a clean
electric grid by 2035.
I urge CARB to think broadly about other contributing
factors to the climate crisis that fall within its scope. In March
2021, CARB recognized that its consumer product regulations aimed
at reducing smog have directly resulted in the increased use of
HFC-152a in aerosols. HFCs are potent greenhouse gasses. If
California can lead the way in eliminating HFCs it will likely lead
to a nationwide reduction equivalent to 5 megatons of CO2. I urge
CARB to fix this oversight and bring regulation on aerosols in line
with our overall climate goals, and give us the best possible
chance of a liveable future.
