I was horrified to recently learn that
California consumes 50% of the oil coming from Ecuador and areas in
the Amazon. This is my home state, and nothing feels worse to me
than knowing that what I am putting in my car might be destroying
the lungs of our planet and destroying the lives of indigenous
people whose lands are being exploited and poisoned. For
years oil companies have been getting away with violating the
rights of indigenous people , causing disease, pollution and
destruction of waterways and habitats. The Amazon should be
treated like an endanger species. I believe that any climate
change plans going forward should restrict fossil fuel expansion,
especially in Ecuador and the Amazon.
